Data Coverage
71d old
What % of Patagonia's 114 catalog products have each field. Empty bars mean we don't have the data, not that the brand hid it — these are gaps we're working to fill.
1973 · Yvon Chouinard
Yvon Chouinard founded Patagonia in 1973 to fund a climbing-hardware business; the apparel was meant to be a side project. The brand spent the next fifty years using profits to bankroll environmental activism — 1% of sales to grassroots groups since 1985, the conversion of the company to a perpetual environmental purpose trust in 2022. The product side leads on recycled fibers (recycled polyester since 1993), Fair Trade Certified sewing, PFC-free DWR, and the Worn Wear repair / resale infrastructure that nobody else has bothered to build.
Known for
Why it's in our catalog: The reference outdoor brand. Composition disclosure is excellent (every product page lists fiber breakdown and source), recycled / organic content is high, and the activism is structural rather than marketing. Useful as the upper bound for "what an outdoor brand can be" in the FabricIQ catalog.
