Overview

FabricIQ is a fabric analysis tool that helps you understand clothing materials, care instructions, and sustainability ratings. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Fabric compositions

When you enter or scan a clothing tag, we process the text to provide analysis. This data may be stored anonymously to improve our database.

Account information

If you create an account (optional), we store your email address and preferences.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not store photos from camera scans — images are processed on-device and discarded immediately
We do not track your location
We do not sell your data to third parties

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide fabric analysis and care recommendations
  • To improve our material database through anonymized, aggregated data
  • To sync your saved analyses across devices (if you create an account)

Data Storage

Our mobile app works offline — material data is stored locally on your device using SQLite. When online, the app syncs with our cloud database (hosted on Supabase) to receive material updates. Your saved scans are stored locally unless you opt into cloud sync.

Mobile App

SQLite local database. Works offline. Your data stays on your device.

Web App

Supabase cloud. No personal data stored unless you create an account.

API Data Collection

When you use the FabricIQ API, we collect minimal technical data to keep the service running smoothly.

  • API requests are logged with: IP address, endpoint called, and timestamp
  • No personal data is collected through the API
  • Rate limiting uses IP-based tracking, which is not stored long-term
  • API logs are retained for 30 days for debugging and abuse prevention, then deleted

Chrome Extension Data

Our Chrome extension is designed to be privacy-friendly. Here's exactly what it does and doesn't do:

  • The extension reads only fabric composition text from product pages you visit
  • Optional: you can enable anonymous product submissions (composition, URL, brand) to help grow our database
  • Auto-submit is opt-in only — it is off by default
  • No browsing history, personal data, or account information is ever collected
  • The extension does not run on non-shopping pages

Mobile App Data

The mobile app is built offline-first, meaning your data stays on your device by default.

  • Camera access is used only for barcode and label scanning — photos are processed on-device and never uploaded
  • Scans and saved analyses are stored locally on your device (SQLite), not uploaded to our servers
  • The product and material database is synced from our server (one-way download only, no upload of your data)
  • Language and theme preferences are stored locally using AsyncStorage

Third-Party Data Sharing

We believe your data belongs to you. Here's our straightforward sharing policy:

  • We do not sell personal data — ever
  • Product composition data (no personal information) may be shared through our API for licensed commercial use
  • Analytics: basic, anonymous page view tracking only — no user profiling or behavioral targeting
  • We do not share data with advertising networks
